Paraguay had a golden chance in the 20th minute when a header by Dario Veron that was cleared off the line by Jonathan Bornstein.

The Paraguayan onslaught got them the 1-0 in the 29th minute when Edgar Barreto slide the ball past Keller.

However, the U.S. struck back in the 40th minute with a fantastic shot from outside of the box by Ricardo Clark to make the game 1-1.

Oscar Cardozo took advantage of a U.S. mistake and made the game 2-1 in the 56th minute.

The game remained very intense. Justin Mapp had a very dangerous shot that went just over the Paraguayan goal, while Drew Moor had his point blank header saved.

Though the U.S. kept fighting for the tie, they could not score again. Paraguay went up 3-1 in the 93rd minute after a fantastic free kick by Salvador Cabañas.
