Mexico celebrates |
Mexico is undefeated and is already in the quarterfinals, depending on the outcome of the game they could end up anywhere from first to third. Chile only needs a tie to assure themselves a ticket to the next round. The game between Mexico and Chile will define Group B even before the Brazil and Ecuador close Group B play. The teams from Group B would have to play against Argentina and Paraguay, which makes the stakes higher for this game. Chile is looking at potentially ending in third place and having to play either the leader of Group A or Mexico in the next round. Mexico will be looking for a win, the team will not let down even though they will field substitutes. "I'm sure we will have some changes", said the Mexico coach the day before the game against Chile. The midfield and up front is where the changes will most likely take place. Mexico, in the first two games, lined up Nery Castillo and Juan Carlos Cacho. Sanchez could possibly line up Cuauhtémoc Blanco or Adolfo Bautista for Castillo and Omar Bravo for Cacho. The defense has worked well for Hugo Sanchez, and the defense knows the Chilean strikers well from the Mexican league. Nelson Acosta, Chile coach, has a couple of players missing because of injuries. Like midfielder Rodrigo Meléndez, defender Miguel Riffo, and striker Reynaldo Navia. Melendez is out for the game against Mexico, while Riffo and Navia are a game time decision. Acosta has to find a replacement for suspended defender Jorge Vargas after being cautioned while on the bench in the game against Brazil.. Probable Starters: Mexico: Guillermo Ochoa; Rafael Márquez, Jonny Magallón, Fausto Pinto, Israel Castro; Ramón Morales, Gonzalo Pineda, Gerardo Torrado, Jaime Correa; Cuauhtémoc Blanco and Omar Bravo. Coach Hugo Sánchez. Chile: Claudio Bravo; Pablo Contreras, Ismael Fuentes, Álvaro Ormeño, Sebastián Roco; Mark González, Arturo Sanhueza, Manuel Iturria, Jorge Valdivia: Juan Lorca and Humberto Suazo. Coach Nelson Acosta. |
