Brazil vs. Ecuador |
Brazil beat Ecuador 1-0 in their last game for Group B in the 2007 America Cup, thus assuring themselves a spot in the quarterfinals. The game was played in General Anzoátegui Stadium.
The only goal came in the 55th minute. Robinho scored from the penalty spot, and is now the leading scorer of the America Cup.
This result give Brazil six points and ended in second place of Group B, while Ecuador has zero points and is eliminated.
Ecuador had a slight chance of qualifying to the next round. Ecuador came out very aggressive looking for a positive result, while Brazil once again was heavily dependent of Robinho.
Brazil came out trying to hold the ball, and play their style of attacking soccer.
Brazil was close to opening the scoring in the 16th minute with a shot by Vagner Love, which was saved by Marcelo Elizaga.
Ecuador almost went ahead in the 29th minute by Christian Benitez, when he shot a rocket from outside of the box that Doni sent to the corner.
The first half ended with complete domination by Brazil. Elizaga saved Ecuador on two separate occasions before the end of the half.
The second half had a lot less intensity, but Robinho¿s talent made the difference in the game. The Real Madrid striker forced a penalty shot, and in the 55th minute he put Brazil up 1-0.
That goal put the game on ice. Ecuador tried, with little strength they had left, to tie the game. Brazil finished second in their group with that win.
