Jamaica wins Cup and Trinidad & Tobago advances

06/MAY/2005 -Jamaica won its first Caribbean Nations Cup crown since 1998 after defeating Cuba 1:0 in last day of the CFU (Caribbean Football Union) Digicel Cup Final Round at the National Stadium in Waterford, St. Michaels Barbados.
Luton Shelton scored the game-winner for Jamaica (3-0-0, 9 Points) in the 48th minute of the second half against Cuba (2-1-0, 6 Points).

In the other Digicel Cup encounter on Thursday, Trinidad & Tobago (1-2-0, 3 Points) claimed the final Caribbean berth to the 2005 CONCACAF Gold Cup¿ after topping the host Barbados (0-3-0, 0 Points) 3:2.

The soca warriors took a 2:0 lead with goals by Conrad Smith and Cornell Glen in the 11th and 30th minutes, respectively, but the bajans got on the board in the 32nd minute with goal by Norman Forde.

Angus Eve gave Trinidad & Tobago 3:1 lead in the 75th minute of the second half, then Ryan Lucas scored for Barbados ten minutes later.

The soca warriors join the cubanos and reggae boyz as the CFU representatives to the 2005 CONCACAF Gold Cup¿ which will run from 6-24 July in the USA.

Along with the CFU teams, the 2005 CONCACAF Gold Cup¿ will consist of Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras and Panama from UNCAF (Union Centroamericana de Fútbol); Canada, Mexico and USA from the North Zone; and two guest teams: South Africa and another to be announced.
