12/JUL/2005 -The win left Honduras comfortably atop Group A, followed by Panama,
which will also advance to the next round of the competition.
Honduras dominated early on, with good movement up field and several good scoring
chances, although it was not until the 79th minute that forward Samuel Caballeros
scored the match's only goal.
Despite the loss, Panamanian goalkeeper Jaime Penedo did an outstanding job
of neutralizing Honduras' scoring chances for most of the game.
Panama, which had no lost in the competition, pressed forward and looked evenly
match during the first 45 minutes of play, even though star forward Luis Tejada
was unable to capitalize on several scoring opportunities.
Tejada, who has scored all of Panama's three goals in the tournament, was replaced
by Angel Rodriguez in the second half, improving Panama's midfield control,
but causing the team to lose its offensive momentum.
After Caballeros' goal, Panama coach Jose Hernandez pulled Julio Cesar Dely
Valdes from the bench, but that move was not enough to bring the Panamanians
back.
