It is not breaking news that Michael Phelps dominated the Beijing 2008 games with 8 gold medals. But did you know he beat out all Latin American countries when it came to total medal count?

Venezuela had only one medal in the Bejijing games, a bronze medal to Dalia Contreras Rivero in Taekwondo.

Ecuador had only one medal in Beijing, a silver medal for Jefferson Perez in the 20 km walk.

Chile also only had one medal in 2008, a silver medal for Fernando Gonzalez in tennis.

The Dominican Republic is the first in our list with a gold medal. The country had a gold medal in boxing with Felix Diaz and silver in taekwondo with Yulis Gabriel Mercedes.

Mexico is one of the surprises on the list. The country had only 3 medals in Beijing. It won two gold medals in taekwondo with Guillermo Perez and Maria del Rosario Espinoza and a bronze medal in synchronized diving for Paola Espinosa and Tatiana Ortiz.
