Brazil won the title by way of the penalty shootout. Adriano scored the game tying goal in stoppage time in the end of the second half, making the score 2 - 2.
Argentina went ahead twice. Kily Gonzalez opened the scoring in the 20th minute. Luisão tied the game in the last play of the first half. Cesar Delgado scored in the 42nd minute of the second half, leaving everyone thinking that the game was over.
A powerful shot as he was coming in the box by Adriano changed the game completely.
Adriano was voted the best player of the tournament, as well as the leading scorer with seven goals.
Coach Carlos Alberto Parreira used this tournament to experiment with other players, making the title even sweeter.
