The Mexican national team finished third in the 2007 America Cup, when they came back from one goal down. Mexico scored two beautiful goals, and a goal from the penalty spot, after the Uruguayan captain Diego Lugano was red carded in the first half.

Brazil made it to the final of the 2007 America Cup by beating Uruguay 5-4 in the penalty shootout, after tying 2-2 in regular time.
