One of three South American nations that have not won the America Cup title. Chile goes to Venezuela looking for their first title. In order for this to happen they must improve, and by a lot, over their last appearances in international tournaments.
Since their qualification to World Cup 1998 in France, the Chilean National Team has had dismal showings. This is surprising seeing as they possessed one of the most formidable striker duos in South America with Marcelo Salas and Ivan Zamorano.
The Chileans posses young athletes with great potential, who will participate in the America Cup. The midfielders Valdivia and Matias Fernandez are the best examples of this. Up front, Suazo maintains the long lineage of good center forwards with great presence in the box. He is the first since Zamorano's retirement.
Coach
Nelson Acosta
Nelson Acosta is in charge of Chile again, he took over the team in 2004. His objective is to make Chile one of the elite teams in South America once again. He led the Chilean Squad that qualified for World Cup 1998, but since he departed from the national team in 2000 the team derailed. They had dismal showings in the America Cups and in the World Cup Qualyfiers.
The Star
Valdívia
Elevated to new Chilean superstar status, Jorge Valdivia became famous in Brazil when he was signed by Palmeiras last year. He own supernatural skill and is very fast. The Magician, as he is known, began his career with Colo Colo and in a short time he won over the Palmerias supporters.
