Ready for a Championship

They had two second place finishes (1993 and 2001), the Mexican National Team goes to Venezuela looking for a surprising championship. Mexico, which was eliminated by Argentina in the last World Cup in the second round, has been showing good form since Hugo Sanchez took over.

Strikers Jared Borghetti and Bautista, midfielders Guardado, Palencia, and Alberto Medina, and defender Rafael Marquez are part of the reason that the quality of play has been so high this year.

Traditionally Mexico plays attacking soccer and for that reason they give the traditional teams a hard time throughout their appearances in the America Cup (six total), like Brazil in 2001 and Argentina in 2004.

Coach
Hugo Sanchez
Ex player, Hugo Sanchez, took over Mexico in November 2006 for Ricardo LaVolpe. The ex Pumas and Necaxa coach never hid his desire to coach the national team, his want to coach was very evident seeing as he criticized the team's style of play even before he was the coach.
The Star
Rafa Marquez
The Barcelona defender is one of the best on the Mexican team. As the captain he leads the Mexican squad. He has good skill and a precise touch, which allows him to play in the midfield. His coach believes that he will standout in Venezuela.
