Looking for a third title
Peru has two champions in 1939 and 1975. The Peruvian National Team is having problems internally right before the America Cup. This will be the 28th time they participate. Pizarro, a star on the team, was suspended by the federation in October for not participating in a friendly against Chile, which created a rift between Pizarro and the federation.
On the pitch however, coach Julio Cesar Uribe kept the base of the team of the last couple of years. Strikers Jefferson Farfán and Paolo Guerrero, defenders Juan Vargas and Alberto Rodríguez will be on the squad for sure.
Even with all that Peru is still not a considered a favorite for the tournament being held in Venezuela. Peru, like Bolivia, is considered a weaker opponent and has an outside chance of winning their third title.
Julio Cesar Uribe
In March Uribe was chosen to coach the Peruvian National Team. In reality, he retook the position five years after he had already coached them during the World Cup 2002 qualifiers. Immediately after his first game back as coach, Uribe left the delegation and went out to a Yokohama Discotheque, which created problems back in Peru. |

Claudio Pizarro
Strong in the air and good with his back facing the goal, the veteran Claudio Pizarro is the great Peruvian star. Along side speedster Jefferson Farfan, "pizza" as he is known on his club team Bayern Munich, he will try to help win another title. They haven't won the tournament in 32 years. |
