Looking to restore their prestige

The team with the most America Cup titles along with Argentina (14titles), Uruguay will try to become one of the elite South American teams once again. Their last America cup title came in 1995 when they hosted the tournament.

Since that tournament, Uruguay has been dismal, like being left out of World Cups 1998 and 2006. Uruguay will be fielding a renovated squad this America Cup.

Oscar Tabarez work with Uruguay has been very good. While he has been coach they have won 6 of 11 friendlies. Those results have given people high hopes for the upcoming America Cup.

Oscar Tabarez retook the Uruguayan National Team coaching job in 2005 in place of Jorge Fosati. Seventeen years ago Tabarez coached Uruguay in World Cup Italy 1990. He has an impressive resume having worked for important South American and European clubs. Some of the clubs are Boca Juniors, Peñarol, Milán, and Cagliari.

Diego Lugano
Lugano gained recognition while playing for Sao Paulo from 2004 to 2006, where he won Paulista titles, a World Club Cupand the Libertadores Cup. He currently plays for Turkish side Fenerbahce. Lugano is known heart and tough play. Lugano is one of the important players on Tabarez' squad.
