After a 12 year absence, the United States will dispute the American Cup looking for more experience. In their last appearance in 1995, the Americans left a good impression when they had a fourth place finish after eliminating Argentina and Mexico.
The "best American National Team of all time" has a problem with consistency. They had 2 dismal showings in World Cup 1998 and 2006, but had a surprising fifth place finish in 2002.
Since Bruce Arena left in 2006 the U.S. has been under the guidance of Bob Bradley. The U.S. will be fielding a young squad. Dempsey, Conrad, and Johnson stand out. They participated in World Cup 2006 and they hope to use what they learned in Venezuela.
