| Franz Beckenbauer was born on September 11th, 1945, in Munich, Germany. When he was 13 years old he was already playing for Bayern’s youth team and when he turned 20 he started playing for the national “B” German team. Then he would play for the senior national tema and he made his debut, as captain, in Turky on April 25th, 1971. He played in the England 1966 World Cup where he ended up as a runner up to the hosts, he played in Mexico 1970, he became a World Champ in Munich, he won the league with Bayern in 1969 and 1972, and the cup in 1966,1967, 1969 and 1971. In 1977, he signed for Cosmos of the NASL, where he played with Pele. From 1980 to 1982 he played for Hamburg, and he retired on June 1st, in a game between his club team and the German national team. In 1984 he started coaching the national team, and did so in Mexico 1986 and Italy 1990. After winning the World Cup he became Adidas image and from 1990 to 1992 he coached Olympique Marseille. In 1993 he started coaching Bayern, where he would later become president. He was chosen the best German player three times, in 1972 and 1976 he won the Golden Ball given by France Football and has won the FIFA merit award.
