Eusebio da Silva Ferreira, known as the Black panther, was born in Maputo (Mozambique) on January 25th 1942. His first club was Sporting Club de Lourenco Marques.

In 1960 the Brazilian coach Jose Bauer discovered him and signed him for Benfica, where he played until 1975.

In the 1966 World Cup Eusebio became the best goal scorer with 9 goals and got the thirs spot for Portugal. With Benfica he won 13 Leagues, 5 Cups, 2 european Cups, a Golden Ball in 1965 and two golden boots in 1968 and 1973.

Starting in 1975 he signed by various US and Canadian teams like the Boston Minutemen, Toronto Metros-Croatia, Las Vegas Quicksilver, etc. He then returned to Benfica as an assistant coach.

He is the best goal scorer for Benfica and for the national team and is considered one of the best players in the world. In January 2000 he was awarded the best Portuguese athlete in history award.
