| An exceptional forward. In almost 18 years as a professional (1978-1996) he never got a single a yellow card. He scored 48 goals for England, 10 of them in two World Cups, Mexico 86 and Italy 90. In Mexico, he was the awarded the Golden Boot after scoring 6 goals for his team.
His best year as a professional was in 1985, when he played for Everton and scored 40 goals during one season. In Mexico 86, after a bad start for England (they lost 1-0 against Portugal) Lineker picked up things for the team and scored important goals. He also scored the only English goal in the game against Argentina where the Pross were eliminated from the World Cup.
Thanks to his great display in this World Cup, he was sold to F.C. Barcelona where he won the Cup Winner’s Cup and Spanish Cup. In Italy 90, he helped England to the semifinals. They got disqualified by Germany, but Lineker still went home with 4 goals.
England did not qualify to the USA 94 World Cup, which prevented Lineker from pushing his mark. Still, his 10 goals in 2 World Cups did place him in the exclusive Top 8 Best Goal scorers in the tournament.
