| He was born on April 25th 1947, in Amsterdam. As a kid he started playing Ajax, where he became a professional. In 1973 he signs fro FC Barcelona and scored two goals in his debut against Cercle Brugge. He soon became the team captain.
In 1978 he retires from Spanish soccer and moves on to play for the Washington Diplomats and the Los Angeles Aztecas of the NASL. From 1981 to 1982 he returns to Spain to play for Levante. After that short spell he plays for Ajax and Feyenoord. In 1988 he becomes Barcelona’s head coach.
He was Europe’s best player in 1971 and 1973 and Holland’s best player in 1967, 1968, 1969 and 1973. He won the Champions League and the Cup with Ajax and with Barcelona. In 1993 he wrote his first book: “My players and I”.
Right now, he is working in the preparation of future athletes in Amsterdam working for the Johan Cruyff Sports University. He has studied business administration, marketing and Public relations.
