Geography
Germany is located in Central Europe. It is bordered on the north by the North Sea, Denmark and the Baltic Sea; on the east by Poland and the Czech Republic; on the south by Austria and Switzerland; and on the west by France, Luxembourg, Belgium and the Netherlands.

The landscapes of the German countryside are very diverse. The main rivers running through the country are the Rhine, the Elbe, the Danube, and the Ems, which form part of the 4,657-mile network of German rivers, the main ports of which are Duisburg and Magdeburg.

Hamburg, Wilhelmshaven and Bremen are some of the most important seaports. Germany is also a country famed for its advanced network of highways (142,839 miles) and railroads (27,572 miles).

The World Cup headquarters are some of Germany’s main cities, known for their beauty and development. Besides the capital, the country’s largest cities are the important port of Hamburg (population 1,705,872); Munich (population 1,244,676), which is a cultural and commercial center; Cologne (population 963,817), famous for its architecture and the Rhine River; and Frankurt am Main (population 652,412), a financial epicenter of Europe; among others.
