A City with Historical Streets

The towers of the Cologne Cathedral can be seen from afar raising above the city. It is the second heighest building of Cologne, with 172 yards, and it is the symbol of the city. Along with the historic helmet, located next to the Rhine, the museum and the main Railway Station, it attracts more than 1.8 million visitors a year.

The Cologne Carnival, known all over the world, is also a great tourist attraction. The also called Fifth Season of the year begins every year at 11:11 AM of the 11th day of the 11th month, November. Until Ash Wednesday, when Lent traditionally starts, the city is practically at the mercy of the Jecken, who entertain the Carnival with numerous festivities and costume dances. The Weatherx of the Carnival is the Rosenmontag Parade (Carnival Monday) which is held all over the city streets.

Cologne is also famous for its beer, Kölsch, a light colored, high fermentation beer. For the beer to receive this name, it must have been brewed in Cologne itself. It is for this reason that Cologne is known all over the world as the city with the best breweries. Just in Cologne and its surrounding areas, there are 24 breweries that make Kölsch. Kölsch beer is served in special glasses called Stangen, which are narrow and cylindrical in shape.
